Zoetis Vetscan Hub
Building modular components for platform scalability.
Zoetis is the global leader in animal health, offering diagnostics, medicines, and digital tools for veterinarians and livestock producers. One of their key digital products is the Vetscan Hub, a centralized touchscreen device used in veterinary clinics to manage diagnostics testing. The hub integrates seamlessly with Practice Information Management Software (PIMS), point-of-care analyzers, and the virtual laboratory to provide a unified diagnostics workflow.
The Challenge
Redesign the Vetscan Hub for a new tablet experience, making it responsive, readable, and easy to use.
The original Vetscan Hub interface wasn't optimized for new tablet hardware being introduced in clinics. The tablet's tall, narrow screen, and uneven bevel caused key content to be cut off or misaligned. Additionally, the UI components weren't responsive, making it difficult to adapt the layout without rebuilding it from scratch.
Solution
Componentization & Responsiveness
Developed a new style guide with updated typography (+2px for readability), clear documentation of component usage, improved color contrast for accessibility.
Data Table System
Designed a modular "lego-style" table system with:
• 11 reusable cell types
• 3 header variants
• Supports column-wise construction for multiple use cases
Redesigned Vetscan Hub Screens
Rebuilt all screens using Figma auto-layout and styles to ensure scalability across devices.
Reflection
Completed a clickable prototype ready for display on the product shelf!
While we started with a wide range of feature ideas, we realized the importance of being more convergent in our thinking to thoughtfully narrow down what belonged in a meaningful MVP. We also discovered that time, space, and anticipation, when intentionally designed, can transform digital interactions into moments that feel personal, sacred, and emotionally resonant.
With that being said, we successfully created a full prototype in under 24 hours, complete with animated flows and thoughtful UI patterns. Beyond the hackathon, Between Us sparked conversations around mindful technology and the future of intentional communication design.
